SUICIDE PREVENTION

More than 33,000 Americans died by suicide in 2006 and there are many resources available to individuals and families concerned about suicide.  The risk factors for suicide are many and complex.  Some of the more common indicators include:

  • Talking about dying
  • A recent loss
  • Personality changes  
  • Behavioral changes
  • A change in sleeping patterns
  • A change in eating habits
  • Lowered sexual interest
  • Decreases self-esteem
  • Fearing loss of control
  • Expressing a lack of hope
